DOMINION SINGLES TITLE BRILLIANT DISPLAY' M. J. Squire, of HaWera, who defeated A. Clark, of Ashbury, Timaru, in the Dominion singles bowling championship yesterday afternoon, gave a brilliant display of accurate drawing. The match was played on the Balmacewen Green before several hundred spectators, who were treated to a' grand exhibition of singles play. An experienced.player with a fine record in championship tournament play, Squire was at home at any length on the green, and, though Clark also played well, Squire's deadly accuracy was the dominating factor, allowing him to win comfortably 'by 20-14. Only once was Squire compelled to drive, when he scattered three good close shots by his opponent and drove the kitty into the ditch leaving Clark the opportunity of drawing only one. . It was Clark who opened the scoring with a single on the first head, but on

the next Squire lay two, Clark being through the head with his last bowl. Squire drew another, and lay there. Clark obtained two on each of the next two heads, and at the end of the fifth head the score was: Clark 5, Squire 4. Clark scored a single on the sixth and another on the seventh, but Squire, who was improving with .each., head, drew two on the eighth and a brilliant four on the ninth. With 15 heads gone the score was 17-9 in favour of Squire, who was delighting the crowd ■ with his accurate shots. Squire scored three on the eighteenth head to lead by 20-12. Clark was lying three on the nineteenth when Squire drove the jack into the ditch, Clark drawing with his last bowl for the shot. Clark drew another single on the twentieth head, when the game ended with Squire the winner by 20 to 14. , The play-off for third place in the singles also took place on Balmacewen Green, M. McKenzie CEe Rnngi, Tnvercargill) defeating W. Gilbert (KeMnirn) hv 25 to 13. The Invercargill player got away to a good start .and was never headed. _ At the conclusion of the play, Mr «J. Porster, chairman of the Dominion Bowling Council, congratulated the players in the final on the fine exhibition they had given, and he also expressed the association's thanks to those who had acted as markers throughout the tournament , , ■ Following are the results of the games played yesterday afternoon: —
