SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE \lthouglr the weather was showery on Friday morning, it was beautifully fine m tie afternoon, and there was an excellent attendance at the seventeenth. annual summer show under the auspices the Clutha and Matau A. and P.. Society. The gate takings were in the vicinity of £l3O, a few pounds up on last year. Untries totalled about 760, a slight decrease on last year, a noticeable drop being in baking and butter. Sheep classes were well represented, particularly in the Romney Marsh section, to winch was attached the South . Island championships. Mosley and Sons, the wellknown Clydevale breeders, won the ram championship, while the female championship went to J. C. King, Stony Creek In Southdowns competition was limited to 1. McCrwtell (Balclutha) and E..M. Coleman (Balclutha), the former waning both championships. G. Wray lM»Iton) had the Ryeland . section to himself, and won both championships. There was keen competition in cross-bred sheep. T Burusule (Pukekoma) was very successful, .and secured most points, wTnlo Moore Bros. (Balcluha) came next. In fat cross-bred sheep there was also keen competition, H. C: Holgate .(Balclutha) securing most P °Do"s drwe good entreis, the principal prize°takers being W. Arthur; (Balclutha), J C. King and R. J. Cockenll (Milton) "in the butter section Mrs R. D. Webster (Pukeawa) secured most points, with Mrs E Morris (Balclutha) runner-up. Despite restrictions there was very fair competition in the baking classes. Mrs I. Davis (Balclutha) secured the most points in both the open classes and in the section for competitors within a radius of 20 miles of Balclutha. , In the cattle classes there was great competition in the Friesian. section, the South Island championships being awarded for 'tills. Competitors came from all parts of Otago and Southland, and the female championship went to James Marshall (Kaitangata), with R. R. Dickie (Tuturua) gaining the reserve championship. R. K Dodds (Ferndale) won the male championship, with R. R. Dickie reserve. J. F. Bisset (Wangaloa) won the championships in Ayrshires, while P. A. Watt (Warepaj won the female Jersey championship. In milking Shorthorns A. Struthere (Mosgiel) was successful in winning both championslr'is. In cross-bred cattle red tickets were secured by J. F. Bisset (group of three cows), James Marshall (breeders' group), W. R. Robertson (Mo'rton Mains, dairy cow), James Marshall (yearlings), E. Morris (Balcluta, cottar's cow), Gladys Ross (Kaitangata, calf), J. F. Bisset (best type of dairy cow). In fat cattle A. Carruthers (Middlemarch) was tho chief prize-taker, A. J. Botting (Bal-. clutha) also securing a. portion of red W. R. Christie and H. C. Holgate divided honours in the pig sections. There was good competition in the draught horse section. A. Carruthers was most succsesful, and in addition to winning the, male and female championships also annexed the cup for best female. Allison Bros. (Clarksville) won the red tickets in the working draught classes. In the pony section entries were large. H. S. Latta (Balclutha) won the 14-hand class. B. Andrews (Kakapuaka) was first in the 14.2 class, with Fraser Blackie (Mosgiel) 2, and Roma Hood (Gore) 3. In the pony, mare or gelding, 14 hands and under class, D. W, Wallace (Mosgiel) was first,

Matheson 3; champion saddle horse, Mrs Oliver; champion harness horse, E. M. Parks (Port Molyneux). The competitions were interesting.- The maiden hunter event was won by Bert Andrews (Kakapuaka). There were 19 entries in the big jump, which carried a £lO cash prize, a gold medal valued at £5 ss, and the Simon Wright Shield valued at £25. This was won by W. E. Wilhelmsnn (Mataura), with A. Dodds (Gore) second, and 'W. S. Wayte third. In the lady'a jump there were also 19 entries, and W. Hastie was first, G. Kirk second, and Mr* Oliver third. The wire jump drew 17 entries, and was won by W. Tairoa (Portobello), with A. Dodds second and Mrs Oliver third. Local jump—W. Telford 1, L. H. Tilson 2. The 14.2 hands nonv trot resulted: -R. The grand parade was a feature ol i!i4 afternoon. The recently-resuscitated Bal* clutha Brass Band supplied the music.
