THE PATTON INCIDENT
OFFICIAL REPORT DEMANDED ANXIETY OF SOLDIERS' PARENTS WASHINGTON", November 24. The Senate's Military Affairs Committee has decided to ask the Secretary of War, Mr H. L. Stimson, for an official report on the Patton incident, said Senator S. Downey. He explained that the committee desired the report in connection with President Roosevelt s nomination of General Patton's promotion to the permanent . rank of major-general. General Patton is at present a temporary lieutenant-general, but his permanent rank is colonel. President /Roosevelt's recommendation was sent to the Senate on October 1. Representative C. B. Hoeven, a Republican, in the House of Representatives to-dav demanded ail investigation bv the House Military Affairs Committee, pointing'out that parents oi boys in the service were already weighed down by concern and now had added auxiety " wondering whether their sous are being abused by hard-boiled officers. Perhaps we have too much blood and guts (Patton s nickname) now."
