MANUFACTURE IN AUSTRALIA Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, Nov. 25. The production of medical and dental equipment and drugs, all formerly imported, was one of Australia's major war-time achievements, said the Minister for Supply, Mr J. A. Beasley. The Minister announced that Australia was supplying "the Pacific area with serunis. and vaccines and exporting to the Allies many delicate surgical instruments and drugs. • » " We are sending surgical catgut and hypodermic syringes ~to .New Zealand," he said, "and we are making-sulphaui-lamide and sulphaguaidine, two vitally important drugs. Morphia has already been ,produccd from Australian-grown poppies, and a special factory Will soon be producing large quantities of this drug. Hyoscine and atrophiue, two important alkaloids in medical treatment, are being produced from Australian duboisia. Three other medical products made iu Australia for the first time include ascorbic acid and vitaminised fish oil."
