—Air Passengers.— Passengers from the north yesterday afternoon were: Mr K. D. Atvood (from Auckland), Mr and Mrs G. W. Cole, Mr G. Watson, Mrs W. A. Cockburn, Mr King, Major D. Smith .(from Wellington), Mr W. K. Thomson and Mr R. Bathurst (from Christchurch). Passengers by the. north-bound air liner to-day were: Mr J. A. King, Mesdames L. Purvis and J. Jenkins (for Christohurch), Mr J. Clark.Mr and Mrs E. Saunams, Mrs Bailey and infant, Mrs H. T. Watchben, Sir Walter Layton (for Wellington), Mrs A. G. Pearce, Mrs Lainey and infant (for Auckland).
Sir Walter Layton, leader of the British Press delegation now visiting New Zealand, last night attended the performance of the Dunedin (Repertory Society at His Majesty's Theatre, and this morning left for the north by air. Word has been received by Mr and Mrs T. Adams that their son, Gordon, has been promoted to the' rank or pilot officer and is now in England. Mr N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, is expected to arrive shortly in New Zealand from Britain. Mr Falla is the New Zealand representative at the British Ministry of War Transport. Miss Mabel Howard, M.P., was appointed national secretary of the New Zealand Labourers' Federation by the annual conference m Christchurch. yesterday. She succeeds Mr P. M. 'But- . ler, who has retired after 14 years to concentrate his attention on the Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, and Westland Union, of which he is secretary. The conference expressed regret at Mr Butler's resignation. Miss Howard retired from the position of secretarv of the Canterbury Labourers Union after her election to Parliament at the Christchurch East bj-election this year. She was assistant secretary of the union from 1912 until her appointment as secretary in 1934. A motion of regret at the death of Dr T. McKibhin, late medical, officer of health in Dunedin and sympathy with his relatives, was passed at last night's meeting of the Otago Hospital Board. .
