AT WINGATUI THIS MORNING
FINAL WORK-OUTS '- There were plenty of horses on the tracks at Wingatui this morning, but on account of the heavy going very little fast work was done, trainers preferring to Jet their horses off with short sprints. A sharp frost did not improve the going for the early workers, and even the bright sunshine which followed did not appreciably improve the tracks. Astros ran right away from Bonnie Chela over the last two furlongs in: 1.48 3-5, after running the first half-mile in 58. Lalla Meer showed to ' advantage in a sprint down the straight, next the rails,with Piccolo. Half a dozen two-year-olds were given ths same task after breakfast, and Espadrille, Runaway, and Boon Companion finished on best. . Coy had a six lengths' advantage at the start from Invincible over four furlongs, but there w.as less than a length between them at the finish in 58.
Dash o' Dublin handled the going better than Patria in a sprint over two furlongs, and looks well.
Fair Trial, appeared to be going easily all the way over half a mile in 57.
Banco and Standby finished on even terms over five furlongs in 1.18 2-5. Minority was under restraint, to aliow Steward to finish on even terms with him at the end of half a mile in 60 3-5.
Princess Myosotis handled the going well over five furlongs in 1:17 2-5. John o' London, who . looks on the big side, was sent edx furlongs in 1.30, the last four in 61 1-5, and was tiring at the finish. Bonnie Night ran four furlong 3 in 61, after beginning slowly.
