INFANTILE PARALYSIS

PRECAUTIONS IN SOUTHLAND The Southland medical officer of health (Dr Davies) furnished figures on Friday showing that of the 13 cases of infantile paralysis notified in the district since February 7, 10 had-occurred in late March and April. The closing of schools in Southland because of the prevalence of the disease was'extended on Friday to secondary schools. This was decided because of the large number of secondary school pupils travelling to school Ib.y bus and train, many of these pupils having younger sisters and brothers at home. Unless the period is extended (reports -the 'Southland Times'), the schools will resume oiv Wednesday, April .28,, after the Easter holidays. NO FRESH CASES LOCALLY. Dr T. McKibbin (local medical officer of health) stated this morning that no fresh cases of infantile paralysis had been notified for the district of Otago over the week-end.
