OTAGO AERO CLUB
, ANNUAL MEETING Squadron-leader W. H. Shepherd, president of tho Otago Aero Club, was in the chair at the annual meeting last night. There was a good'-attendance or memlbers and visitors. , In. his remarks the' President stated that since the outbreak of _the war the club had not been very active, but that it had been decided to keep the aero clubs going. • There was no doubt that they had proved of immepo value in the past; ' Many of our” aerodromes were, in peace time, the property of aero clubs, and their machines had formed the nucleus of New Zealand’s Air Force, He stated that the club had decided on a minimum of expenditure, and that the position with regard to assets was very fair. He felt sure, however, that tho activities of'the club would expand considerably after the war, and members must prepare for the future. Squadron-leader Shepherd concluded by welcoming the visitors, and especially the mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), to whom the Qtago Aero Club owed so much. • • • • Mr Allen spoke briefly, tracing the progress of the club since its inception. He congratulated tho club on the healthy state shown by its balance, sheet. Mr Allen stressed that after the war the public,would take a greater interest in flying. Whatever, the velopments, he Imped that the club would he alive to take advantage of them. The committee, all the members of which are on service in some way, was re-elected, with the exception that Mr J. J. Marlow was elected president oa the motion of Squadron-leader. Shepherd; and Lieutenant P. S. Anderson was appointed to the vacant position on the executive. After some discussion on the wisdom of abolishing the subscription for the • duration of the war, it was decided to refers the matter back to the committee for review.
