GOOD PRICES IN ALL SECTIONS At- the Burnside market to-day 350 fat cattle were penned. The bulk of the varding comprised! medium to prime, with a smaller number of pens of ordinary sorts. Cows and heifers were - in. short supply. The market opened at equal to last sale’s rates, but as the sale progressed there was a decided improvement for all classes, showing an appreciation of 20s to 25s on opening rates. Prims quality bullocks realised up to £l6 7s 6d, and cows and heifers to £l3 ss. ~ The yarding of SOO lambs, with tha exception of a few pens of prime, was made up of medium and light sorts. A keen sale resulted _ throughout, and! prices were well maintained on the last sale. Best quality lambs made up to 32s 6d. and prime from 26s to 28s 6d. In the fat sheep'-section the number penned was 1,250. The yarding, as in previous sales, comprised mostly ewes, with a larger number of butcher wethers than has been yarded in previous sales. The market opened at rates equal to last sale, and, with the competition from export, buyers, was fairly steady throughout. Best wethers suitable for butchers’ requirements made up to 33s 9d. and prime young ewes to 19s. Following are the estimates for beef a hundred lb and the prices a lb for mutton, compared with last week’* rates:—

A large yarding of store cattle was penned, and included a line of cattle from the Lakes district. The sale throughout was keen, and prices could be quoted at equal to late sales. A pen of extra good four-year-old steers made £4 15s, three-year-olds could be quoted from £8 5s to £9 10s. A fairly large yarding, numbering 450 fat pigs, was offered, comprising mostly prime baconers and 1 porkers. The sale opened at equal to late rates, and was maintained fairly steadily. Best baconers made up to £4 18s. and porkers up to £3 7s. Baconers and porker* brought up to SJd a lb.
