PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin branch of the Phuiket Society was held on Friday. Those present were Mesdames J. M'Gcorgo (in the chair), Reid, Cunninghame, Ward (Port Chalmers), Williams, Clapperton, Solomon, Moody, Cleghorn,' Cairney, -Jones, Longbottom, Mandeno, Myers, Bruce, and Caiman, and Misses Johnstone and Theomin. The Matron of the Truby KingHarris Hospital reported that during March 43 patients had been admitted (mothers 22, babies 21); 51 patients had been discharged (mothers 21, babies 30) ; and the greatest number in residence on any one day had been nine mothers and 28 babies. Sources of admission had been Palmerston, Alexandra, Clinton, Timaru, Port Chalmers, and from the city and suburbs. The Mothercraft Section had been kept very busy, and all the babies had progressed satisfactorily. In the March summary of the work of the Dunedin Plunket nurses, it was stated that 1,959 babies were on the list; 865 older children on the list; 1,318 visits paid to homes; 4,739 visits paid to offices (2,365 mothers, 2,160 babies, and 214 older children) ; 131 new eases for tho month (babies only) ; and 121 babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases. In the report of the Charge Nurse of the Central Plunket Rooms, the committee was notified of the transfer of Miss Liddell to the staff of the Truby King-Harris Hospital to take over temporarily the duties of tutor sister. Miss Darling will relieve Miss Liddell at the central rooms. A report was given of the meeting of the representatives of the society and the Waverley Ratepayers’ Association. The residents at Waverley had now formed a sub-committee, and were awaiting the Dunedin braneb to complete arrangements that the services of a Plunket nurse might be available for that area. The eonimittee was advised that the new Plunket rooms in Wakari wore to be opened on Wednesday. ■■ I
