DEATH OF MR ALFRED FRITH The death occurred in Melbourne recently of Mr Alfred Frith, the wellknown Australian comedian. To New Zealanders Alfred Frith in the last 20 years had become one of the established fun-makers of the J. C. AVilHamson companies regularly visiting the Dominion. Many breezy roles were played by him in pantomime, review, and musical comedy, and he was very popular with Dunedin audiences. Starting with knock-about comedy, he evolved a technique of his own in character acting, with eccentric embroideries and a flair for adding expression to his parts with dancing drolleries. In 1919 ho was seen in 1 Going Up ’ and ‘Oh Boy ’; in 1920 appeared in ‘ Yes, Uncle,’ ‘ Going Up,’ ‘ High Jinks,’ and ‘ The Girl in the TaxL; and in 1923 was the ehief funmaker in ‘ The Cabaret GirL’ His last anpearaneo-here was in 1935, in ‘The White Horse Inn.’ The theatrical world will be much the poorer for Mr Frith’s passing.
