HORSES IN CAMP

SEVERE WEATHER CAUSES SICKNESS OUTBREAK OF STRANGLES [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 15. Severe weather, including a heavy fall of snow, has resulted) in an outbreak of sickness among the horses concentrated at Waiouru camp for the training of the Ist Mounted Rifles Bngade, and a start is being made tomorrow to shift the affected animals to another camp. An inspection of a site at Waiuku was made this afternoon by the Officer Commanding the Northern Military District, Brigadier P. H. Bell, and Ngaruawahia is also being considered. The sickness has occurred among animals not accustomed to such severe conditions. Several hundred horses have developed strangles, and about 460 are to be shifted in batches. In the meantime, the remainder, numbering over 1,000, are to be left at Waiouru, although the question of transferring the brigade to a new training centre for the completion of its training is being considered.
