NOTES ON THE RACING
[Special to tue ‘ Star.’] Douadea, win favourite for the Kildare Hurdles, disputed the lead with Rosemau to the second fence, at which he blundered badly and fell. Rosemau then opened up a big gup from Streamline and Master Dingle, and it was uc-t until the home turn was reached that his position was challenged by Master Dingle, who led over the last fence, and went on for a decisive win. Streamline struggled on to overhaul the tiring Rosemau in the straight.
Pay Roll was sent out first choice for the Champagne Stakes, but was sent back at Ihe start, and, although making up ground fast and leading on to the course proper from her slablemate, Corn Prince, she failed to carry on. Corn Prince and Salutation closely followed Pay Roll, and when she retired Monetary and Palfrey put in claims. Salutation was Che first to retire, and Monetary headed off Corn Prince nearing the post, but Palfrey then came with a determined effort, and gained a meritorious head victory. Corn Prince was a close third, with Willow Wood two lengths away and Pay Roll last.
The early leaders in the Courtenay Handicap were My Abbey, Hurry Girl, Avenal, Arctic Dawn, and Enticing, and there was not much change until well into the straight, where My Abbey retired, and Roman Soil and Rue became prominent. Roman Son gradually wore down Hurry Girl, and won attractively from the latter, who similarly beat Rue.
Wild Fox, Blue Abbey, and Benevolent were the slowest to move off from a good start in the Autumn Plate, and the first to show out were Eulogist and Kliurja, and this pair carried on in front to the straight entrance, where Eulogist retired and Sweet Mystery took his place, with Foxette, Wild Fox, BJne Abbey, Blue Border, and Mutter'all handy. Half a furlong from the fpost Foxette and Blue Border drew put and fought out a stirring struggle, Blue Border gaining a last-stride verdict. In another close tussle for third money Wild Fox beat Muffler by a head, with another hcad ; to Blue Abbey, Khurja and Sweet Mystery practically in lino.
There was some spirited speculation on the Great Easter Handicap, which was generally accepted as being very open, but it was won decisively by the second choice, Kentucky. He was alow early, but was well placed turning for home, and when the pacemaker, Hearth, and Density compounded at the straight entrance he moved to the front and won going away. King’s Toast came from well back to wear clown Kentucky’s stable mate, Circular Note, two strides from the post and beat him for second money. Two lengths away Little Robin, who was last turning for home, beat Night Eruption ,by a length, with Enrich, Leighnor. and Doria next, the last to finish being Not Out and Don’t Forget.
Hinepo and Full Pitch led on to the course proper in the Russley Handicap from Arabian Night, Egyptian Rose, and Espionage, but inside, the last furlong Egyptian Rose showed out and carried on for an easy win, while Hineno held on in narrowly beat Arabian Night, with Espionage a bead away.
The Sockburn Handicap provided an interesting race, with another close finish. Wardress was slow to move off, and Liaue lost several lengths before she found her feet. With two furlongs covered Gay Parade had taken charge, and with The Wrecker as his nearest attendant, led into the straight from Winning Rival, Prudent Prince, .Iceland Spar, and Happy Ending. All of these were fairly well bunched a furlong from home, where Iceland Spar could be seen working his way np to the leaders, and a few chains from the post he was in front. Prudent Prince and Whining Rival, however, kept at him, and in a close tussle Iceland Spar held on to gain a neck verdict from Prudent Prince, who narrowly beat Winning Rival. The Papanni Handicap resulted in another close finish. Star Wink and Stabilise raced abreast in front to the straight entrance, with Rawlmmai and Phyto c'.osc np. Star Wink was soon done with, and Rawhamai drew up to,Stabilise. This pair had a sustained struggle home, and the issue was in doubt until the last stride, Stabilise gaining a half-head verdict. Phyto was a fair third, two lengths in front of Halt and Greenbank. COUNTER-COMPLAINT. The judicial stewards were called together early in the programme to bear a complaint lodged by M. Billington against bis employer, F. Roberts, that an. engagement to ride Not Out in the Great Easter Handicap had been broken. After hearing the evidence the stewards decided that Billington must be paid his fee, either winning or losing, and that proper steps may be taken by Roberts to deal with bis complaint against the conduct of Billington)
