[From Ode Correspondent] PERSONAL. Trier to his departure for Ashburton Mr ii. Boss, of Milton, was mot by the members of the Ambassadors’ Dance Band, of which ho has boon a member for some years, and presented with a token of esteem. Mr and Mrs E. Cromarty, who are leaving Milburn for Highcliffi after about 10 years’ residence, were entertained at a ’farewell social this week. There was a largo attendance, and during the course of the function they wore the recipients of a well-filled wallet, while Mrs W. Elliott, on behalf of the Ladies] Guild, presented Mrs Cromarty with a gift. Several present bore testimony to the high regard in which the guests of the evening were held, Mr N. Drinnan making reference to Mr Cromarty’s interest in the Homo Guard movement. Members of the Milbnnx Boys’ Pipe Band also paid a tribute to Master James Cromarty, one of their members. Swan, assisted by officers and members of Court Molynoux in a very capable manner. At the conclusion of lodge business a new honours board bearing the names of P.C.U.s of the lodge covering the period from 1865 to 1940 was unveiled by R.C.R.. Bro. John Murray, of Dunedin. There was a largo attendance of members and past officers, over which P.C.R. Bro. J. R. Wilson presided. The beard contains 91 names, which D.S.G.R. Bro. Swan said was more than on any other honours board in the United Otago Distinct. Several speakers referred to the history of the lodge ever the past 75 years, and congratulations were extended to Court Bruce on their enterprise, and best wishes for its continued success were expressed. An enjoyable evening concluded with supper. ANNUAL MEETINGS. Balclutha Golf Club. —There was a large attendance at the annual meeting last night, Mr R. R. Grigor presiding. The credit balance was £3 9s Bd, compared with £2B 10s 5d at the start of the year. The membership was 40 men and 40 ladies, and subscriptions totalled £2lB 6s. Much work of a non-recurring nature had been undertaken during the season, which accounted for the increased expenditure. The sura of £2B 19s had been raised for patriotic purposes. The election of officers resulted President, Mr R. R. Grigor; vicepresident, Mr T. M. Thompson; secretary and treasurer t Mr E. L. Egarr; club captain, Mr A. K, Baxter; committee—Messrs W. L. Jolly, L. Edwards, A.' Marshall; auditor, Mr E. B. Lothian. It was decided that members on active service be kept good on tho books for duration of wiar. Messrs A. S. Nosh, J. Burton, J. A. Weir, Misses A. Guest, M. Gjiest, and W. Clark were accepted as new members. A recommendation was made to the committee to procure a professional coach during the season, members desiring his services to notify the secretary. It was decided that the ‘‘ lift and place ” rule apply after, the drive only to holes decided upon by the committee. Recommendations to the committee included one that as many matches as possible with outside clubs be arranged, also that matches be arranged with A and B grade players as often as possible. It was decided that players with a handicap of 18 and under be graded A, and over 18 B grade. The opening day was fixed for April 5, and it was decided that on April 26 a special day be held to raise funds for the Soldiers’ Comforts fund. The committee was authorised to purchase a suitable cup for the B' grade ladies’ championship. The following office-bearers wore elected by the Balclutha Ladies’ Golf Club:—President, Mrs J. D. Landels; vice-president, Mrs J. G. Anderson; secretary, Miss Martin; club captain, Mrs L. Moffat; vice-captain, Mrs A. K. Baxter; B grade captain, Mrs A. Aitken; handicap manager, Mrs Anderson; committee—Mesdames J. Copland, Miller, W. Roy, J. Freeman, and G. Sinclair. Milton Women’s Hockey Club. —Miss L. Goss presided over a good attendance. The credit balance was £24 8s 7d, compared with £l7 15s at the start of the season. Officebearers; President, Mrs James Gray; vicepresidents—Mesdames Nimmo, Vidal, Heads, Miss Farrell, Messrs P. Farrell, W. Clark, B. Hood, S'. Lambert, A. M’Leod, J. Campbell, the Rev. Gordon Parker; secretary. Miss M. Wells; treasurer, Miss E. Buchanan; coach, Mr B. Hood; selectors, Misses L. Goss, L. Burn; committee—Misses M. Kean, E. Buchanan, G. Taylor, L. Goss, M. and L. Martin, L. Burn, J. Morris, T. Wilson, D. Smith, E. and T. Ceilings; South Otago Association delegates, Messrs Farrell and Hood; club captain, Miss L. Goss; vicecaptain, Miss Lorna Martin. The opening day was fixed for April 19. It was decided to invite A and B teams from Training College (Dunedin) to visit Milton for the opening day matches. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr Farrell as selector. Mr Farrell has held this position since 1908, and during this period has taken a keen interest in the well-being of the club. Best wishes were extended to him, and recognition of his services will be made at a later date. 111-health is the cause of his resignation. Tho prospects are for a successful season, several new members having signified their intention of joining up with the club.

W.D.F.U.—Mrs M. C. Milne presided over a good attendance of the Milton branch. The following office-bearers were elected : President, Mrs Milne; vice-president, Mrs J. Fegan; secretary, Mrs J. Allison; Advisory Committee, Mesdames Jasper Clark and C. It. Shoat; committee —Mesdames D. Stewart, A. Finch, R. Baird, Misses J. Leslie, E. Stewart, N. Shcat; delegates to conference, Mesdames Milne and Allison. The (lower competition for the year resulted in Mrs R. Baird being first and Mrs A. Finch second. Women’s Institute.—Mrs T. L. The residents of Ciarcndon-Waihola district showed their practical sympathy with Mr and Mrs Allan Young, of Waihola, whose house and contents were destroyed on a recent Sunday morning while they were at church. A collection was taken up in the district, and was so well responded to that the Rev. V. G. Bryan King had the pleasure of handing over an amount of well over £IOO to Mr and Mrs Young last week-end. The Milton branch of the Farmers’ Union has forwarded the following telegram to the Minister of Agriculture;— “ The Milton branch of the Farmers’ Union emphatically protests against the shutting out of wether mutton and medium owes from freezing works, and demands that the Government redeem the promise made that surplus fat stock would this year be bought by the Government, and urges that the recommendations of the Meat Board he carried out.”
