BURNS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The fiftieth annual nfeeting of tho Dunedin Burns Club was held on Wednesday in the. Y.W.C.A. assembly room, at which there was a large attendance of members.

The president (Mr Arthur Macdonald), iu presenting the annual report, congratulated the club on having had another successful year. He said the roll showed a slight decrease, but considering the strenuous times might bo considered eminently satisfactory. Ho made reference to two events of historic interest to the club, that of having celebrated its jubilee and after 50 years of its existence becoming an incorporated body. Ho referred to the growth of the club since it was inaugurated half a century ago by 20 enthusiastic Scots. Since then many thousands of names bad been on the roll, A retrospect of the club revealed that the objects had been faithfully carried out. He had every confidence ii the club's future prosperity. The treasurer (Mr Alex. M'M.illan) presented the balance sheet, which showed that the finances of the club were in a sound position. Several members expressed satisfaction with the report and balance sheet, both of which were adopted.

The President intimated that under the now constitution provision had been made tor a patron, the highest honour that could he conferred by the chib. He referred to Mr Alex. AL'AI illan’s 27 years’' continuous service as treasurer, and as a mark of esteem and appreciation of his faithfulness to his trust, he (the president) counted it a privilege to name Mr Alex. M‘Millan as patron. The popularity of the' nomination was evinced by rounds of applause, and Mr M'Millan was duly elected. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr Alex. M'Millan'; president, Mr Arthur Macdonald ; vice-presidents —Mr J. W. Sutherland and Mr D. Maider; treasurer. Mr Alex. M'Millan; secretary. Mr W. 11. Don ; auditor, Mr 0.
