ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the ,St. John Ambulance Association was held last night. Mr H. L. Paterson was in the chair. The responsibilities of the brigade had increased very considerably as a result of the fact that the country was at war, said Mr Paterson. It was, of course, obvious that St. John must take a very definite part in organising for emergency. The numbers of people taking courses wore almost astounding, and this greatly increased the work of the instructors, who, besides their ordinary tasks, had to assimilate and pass on much knowledge that was new. Mr Paterson paid a warm tribute to the St. John Women’s War Committee, which was doing wonderful work in regard to providing comforts for the troops. He moved the adoption of the annual report. This was seconded by Dr A. R. Falconer, who spoke of the change that was looming for the Home Nursing Service. In the past, only the necessitous poor had been catered for. To-day, what was needed was a. nursing service for the bulk of the people. The mayor (Mr A.. H. Allen) congratulated the association. It was hardly necessary, he said, because it was difficult to conceive of any city or town in the British Empire without its branch of the association. He mentioned particularly the appeal that had been made last year. Other speakers included Mr J. W. Dove and Colonel G. Barclay. ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS.
