Hon. Adam Hamilton, member of the War Cabinet, was a passenger by the through express to-day bound fop Wellington. Mr J. W. Munro, M.P., left by today’s express for Wellington. Mr H. H. Sykes left to-day for Wellington. Mr W. 'll. Sinclair left for Rotorua to-day to attend the annual meetings of tho Newspaper Proprietors’ Association and the United Press Association* Mr J. S. Hislop was a passenger by; to-day’s express, bound for Wellington,; Mr W. H. M'Cormack left this morning for Christchurch. Mr T. Ritchie and a party of 2T left this morning on a North Island tour. Major-general Sir Andrew Russell, Inspector-general of the New Zealand Military Forces, who returned from Invercargill yesterday, left by air to-day for tho north. Yesterday afternoon he discussed matters concerning tho defence of the Port of Otago .with the district area officer (Major J. G, : Jeffrey) and officers commanding various local defence units. Mr D. C. Kidd, M.P., who recently underwent a serious operation at Christchurch, has entered the Rhodes Convalescent Homo, where he will stay for a few weeks before returning to his home. Mr S. F. Cowan, assistant manager of tho Christchurch branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed manager of the Ashburton branch in, succession to Mr A. P. Matthews, who will retire at the end of May. The Otago centre of the Piping and Dancing Association of New Zealand has apppointed Mr Noil Munro judge • of the piping events and Mrs C. O’Sullivan and Mr Leslie M'Gregor judges o£ the dancing section at tho centre’s annual championships. Detective James Gibsou, who has been attached to the Dunedin detective staff since 1924, has been promoted to the rank of detective-sergeant, the promotion to date from August 15 last. Dr Inn Fraser, a graduate of the Otago University, who was practising at Guernsey up to the time the island was taken by the Germans, is now a major in the. R.A.M.C.
