JOTTINGS Answer to Correspondent. “ Forbury Park.”—There is nothing in the Rules of Trotting prohibiting a member of a Judicial Committee from betting on the totalisator. Kule 277 provides (clause I): “A club by its committee and failing action by its committee by its stewards shall for each racing year or at its discretion for each race meeting appoint a Judicial Committee of not less than three or more than five members, of whom three shall form a quorum.” Clause 2: “ Any person not a member of the club may bo appointed a member of the Judicial Committee.” Clause 3: “No member of a Judicial Committee shall sit as a member thereof in the determination of any matter in which ho is in any manner interested or in connection with which ho has given evidence.” Not a Starter. Kilometre, one of those on the minimum in the Auckland Cup, will not be a starter as he has been eased off in his work until later in the season. Thermidor Resumes, After racing at the Grand National Meeting Thermidor was left at Riccarton for veterinary treatment, which was evidently successful, as she has been placed in work again. After a Long Spell. Superex has been engaged in the hurdle races on each day of the holiday fixture at Wingatui since he finished third in a hurdle race at Invercargill two years ago next month. Rider for Enrich. Though Enrich was handled by W. J. Broughton in the Stewards’ Handicap and by G. R. Tattersall when he won the Derby, neither is available to ride him at Ellerslic, and P. Atkins has been engaged. After Six Months’ Spell. C. S. Donald drove Biworthy in the Spitfire Handicap at New Brighton last Saturday. This was Donald’s first public appearance in a sulky since he suffered a broken arm when Accountant fell with him at Oamaru last May. Also Engaged in Auckland Cup, Iceland Spar, a stablemate of Royal Chief, is also engaged in the Auckland Cup, but according to reports from Riccarton he is not likely to make the trip, and may race at Waifcouaiti and Oamaru at New Year time. Two Veterans Fight Out Finish. The finish of the Hurricane Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday saw two veteran drivers at their best. J. Bryce behind Bill B and Free Holmes behind Worthy Deed had a great set-to down the straight, and the former just scored by a neck. Engaged in Great Northern Derby. Lambourn, winner of the principal handicap at Woodville yesterday, is a three-year-old colt by Eulandshar from April Fool, the dam of Beaupartir, and races in Mr T. H. Lowry’s colours. He is engaged in the Great Northern Derby. Both Winners Down in Weight. Last year Cheval de Voice won the Auckland Cup with 7.9, and has 11b less to carry in this year’s race. Bronwen won the Railway Handicap last year under 7.13, and in this year’s race has only 7.5. Bronwen’s time last year, Imin 11 4-ssec, was only a fifth of a second outside the record for the race. Big Field for Great Northern Derby. The inclusion of Belle Cane among those paid up for in the Great Northern Derby makes the total 21, and though there are sure to be several drop out at the final payment, the field promises to be one of the largest ever attracted by this classic, and it is many years since such a collection of winning three-year-olds have been brought together.

Will Be Fancied. Black Thread had the advantage of * 71b allowance when he won the Railway Handicap at Woodville yesterday, and wag easing up at the finish under his 9.3 to wm in Imin 14sec. Hie last success was scored in the Selwyn Handicap at tha Grand National Meeting, when he carried 9.13 and beat a good field. Black Thread is an eight-year-old gelding by Mimetic from Slipstitch, and has 8.12 in the Railway, Handicap, in which he will now be a fancied candidate. Gunn, C, O’Gorman, J. Brydie, F. Gray, and A. Brook. It was decided to hold an eight-race programme on Easter Saturday. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relative* of Messrs Rose Gunn, L. G. Hill, and J* White. Favourably Handicapped. The handicaps declared for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap by Mr M’Nenamin contained several surprise;- -nd not the least of them is the weight all ‘cd Sir Beau in the Railway Handicap. Ha had 8.3 in the Stewards’ Handicap; and after the handicaps had been declared wore the Wellington Guineas. Sir Beau wad backed as if be were unbeatable in tha Riccarton sprint, but was unlu<fcy in thadraw for positions at the barrier, starting! from next to the extreme outside. He did*, not get a good run during the first halfmile, and was about fifth into the straight. Enrich beat him home by nearly two lengths, but Sir Beau was travelling, thafaster over the last half-furlong. In the. Railway Handicap Sir Beau has been given 7.10, and will meet Doria on 101 b and En*.; dorsement on 21b worse terms, and Don’S Forget on 91b and Kentucky on 121 b better terms. On his Riccarton sprinting form Sir Beau is extremely well treated, and i» likely to be one of the early favourites. Should Have Been Third. On the admission of Beau Vite’s rider, third place in the Melbourne Cup was handed away, and in any case the horse’s connections still believe . that he would have won if he had not been given just one race too many price to the Cup, in which he also buckled a plate. A Natural Jumper. The Dozer, winner of the WhangareE Cup, is a five-year-old gelding by Valeria (a son of Valkyrian), from Kukuriki, whosename does not appear in the Stud Book* The Dozer, who is trained by Hector Gray, finished up last season by three wins ini succession, and two of them were scored; in hurdle races. He is reported to he al perfectly natural jumper.
