HAMBURG.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to your illustrated page showing photographs of Hamburg, and your article anent its city. 1 have to point out that from the Hamburg Landingstade to Cuxhaven is 68 miles, from Cuxshaven to the Elbe lightship No. 3 is seven miles. There are three of these lightships placed equidistant miles apart. In reference to your first photograph, I was at Blohm and Voss’s during the building of the Eurcpa. The Bremen was built at Bremen, hence its name, and not at Blohm and Voss’s, in Hamburg; moreover, the Europa was only on the stocks a few months when she was on fire. Yon are in error when you mention that actually this is as far as largo ships can travel. Such craft as the Woerman Line vessels, from seven to 10,000 tons, berth at the Petersenkai, which is about four miles further, being quite close to the Elbe bridge. There is no river called Alstor, but the lake, which is situated in the centre of the city, _ being very popuular in the summer and winter.—l am, etc., J. W. Ramsay. November 27. t
