RAPID EXPANSION

NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE ID,OOO TRAINEES NEXT YEAR The rapid expansion of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and its cooperation in the Empire air training scheme was the subject of an address by the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) at the concert given by the Air Force Band in the Town Hall last night. ~ A total of 5,700 men, he said, was now in training for this branch of the fighting forces. Over 1.000 airmen were serving in Great Britain at tliQ present, and 45 had been decorated by His Majesty the King for distinguished service. . Next year there wouJd be 10,000 men. in training, of whom no fewer than, 4,500 pilots and aircraftmen would go overseas. Mr Jones also paid a tribute to the work of the Navy, and specially mentioned the fine work of the New Zealand nurses. Of these. 106 were serving overseas with the Expeditionary Force. ■
