QUEEN CARNIVAL
CEREMONIAL CORONATION Preparations are proceeding for the spectacular coronation of Queen Mary Pratt,• the successful Air Force Queen in the recently-concluded queen carnival contest. Miss Helen Gard’ner and Miss Bessie Thompson will be responsible for this spectacular presentation, which will be staged at His Majesty’s Theatre. , The whole of the theatre will be transformed to form an .appropriate setting for this Cavalcade of Empire, and the queens, princesses, countesses, maids of honour, and courtiers will appear in gorgeous robes, jewels, and accoutrements of State. Each performer is generously providing his or her own costuming without cost to the patriotic funds, for which this elfort is being made. A feature of the production will be a pageant of Queens of England, from Queen Boadicea to Queen Victoria, which will be presented in a dignified and impressive cavalcade with apropriate atmosphere provided by concealed chorus and verse-speaking choirs, assisted by stage effects entirely new to Dunedin. Mr Ernest Drake’s Choir and the Returned Soldiers’ Choir will be responsible for the choral effects, and soloists throughout the performance are interwoven with the sequence of the presentation in such a way that continuity is maintained. The season will be opened at His Majesty’s Theatre on November 19. and will be staged every evening up to and including November 23, on which night a special gala performance is scheduled. Two matinees will also be given to ensure that as many children as possible will have the opportunity of seeing this historic masterpiece. These matinees will be on Wednesday, November 20, and Saturday, November 23. Country people have a special interest in this coronation ceremony, since it was through their splendid support that Miss ■ Mary Pratt becomes the central figure, and for this reason special arrangements have been made to enable country people to book by letter. The box plan will be opened at the D.I.C. on November 13.
