“VICTORY IS CERTAIN”
HIGH OFFICER'S CONFIDENCE BRITAIN'S POWER IK MIDDLE EAST Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 8. (Received November 9, at 10 a.m.) Major-general Gambier Parry, liaison officer between the British Headquarters General Staff in the Middle East and the Greek General Staff, in an interview, said: “ The British forces in the Middle East are capable of crushing the enemy from any quarter. Victory is certain, and, as Mr Churchill said, we shall share the fruits. It is encouraging to Greece and Britain to have found two brave fighting statesmen to whom we can confide our fate. Mr Churchill and General Metasas will lead us to victory.”
RECAPTURE OF CALLABAT
USEFUL OPERATIONAL BASE (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 8. (Received November 9, at noon.) iWhile military circles in London do not attach exaggerated strategical importance to Gallabat, on the SudaneseAbyssinian frontier, the recapture of which was announced from Cairo, there is satisfaction that the enemy has been dislodged from the post, which he took as a good jumping-off place for further movement into the Sudan. Gallabat, which was held by a strong garrison of Askaris, with Italian officers, is an equally good jumping-off point for movement- intoV Abyssinia, and, as ‘ The Times ’ says, its reoccupation by the British forces proves that they have no intention of surrendering the initiative in that region. There is also gratification that the first action in the Sudan in which Indian troops participated was so successful.
