MAJOR HENRY C. GOFFIN
VISIT TO DUNEDIN Prolably the best known name in the Salvation Army in New Zealand is that of Major Henry C. Goffin, who has arrived here and will conduct the annual songster week-end of the Dunedin City Corps tc-morrow and on Monday. Major Coffin hails from Devon. At the early age of 15 he was bandmaster of the Plymouth I. Corps. Later he became an officer. One of bis first appointments was to accompany the founder, General William Booth, on his tours. In 1912 Major Goffin i ame to New Zealand, and was at first connected with the Wellingtn City Band as band sergeant, later succeeding the late Bandmaster Herbert Tremaine as bandmaster. When statined at Wellington CHy as corps officer, be again took control of the band, and in 1925 organised a tour of tho South Island. As a conductor he has produced fine results with the congress songstei’s, and has also conducted the national headquarters and other important songster brigades. As a composer also the major holds an enviable’ record in that every one of his published band compositions has been recorded.
