NEW ZEALAND HORSES MELBOURNE, November 8. Ajax is siiowing an improvement and is expected to race in the autumn, after which he will definitely be retired. New Zealand horses have already won £7,840 in slakes at the spring carnival. Visiting performers have appropriated £33,000 against £20,000 won by local horses. Now Zealand acceptors for to-morrow are; —Batman Stakes: Nightheam. V.R.C. Handicap: West Wind. Final Handicap: Gladynev. Gold Salute is an unlikely runner in the Final Handicap to-morrow, but is expected to *start in the Williamstown Cup. High Caste and Tidal Wave are likely runners in the same event.
Mildura is remaining in Melbourne, and will join Frank Godby’s team. Mr W. R. Kemball’s dispersal sale was held to-day. Amiable was sold to Mr L. J. O’Sullivan (Sydney) for 750 gs, Sharmint to Mr J. Cook for 120 gs, and Brevillo to Mr T. Reid for 180 gs. Hilton .was passed in at 750 gs. Messrs E. A. and H. A. Underwood, of the Warlaby Park Stud, have purchased file English stallion Helios, by Hyperion—Foxy Girl.
