HIGH CASTE BEATS GOLD SALUTE ANOTHER V.'lH FOR ALL LOVE SURPRISE IN OAKS STAKES MELBOURNE, November 7. The weather was fine and there was a largo attendance at Flemington for the third day of the V.E.C. meeting. Valhalla had little trouble m winning the November Hurdle Race. Modiste seemed assured of second position when he fell at the last hurdle. Despite interference at the start, All Love outclassed his rivals in the Byron Moore Stakes, and maintained an unbeaten record for three starts. He cost 250 gs, and has won over £2,000 in slakes. High Caste was not troubled in the Linlithgow Stakes. Ho was fourth in the early stages, but tackled the leaders in tho straight. The pace was slow early, but tbe last half-mile was run in 47sec. Gold Salute ran a good race, but was no match for the winner. Amiable improved on recent efforts. Reading weakened after making the pace. High Caste ran a dead-heat with Manrico in this event last year. Velocity outstayed his rivals in tho Carnival Handicap. The winner is a sou of the New Zealander Veilmond. Session created a surprise by defeating Tranquil Star in the Oaks Stakes. Throttle was a moderate third. D. Munro, the rider of Session, won tho Oaks on Triode last year. -Riding was a big factor in to-day’s victory. Session ran out a little in tho straight, and some people anticipated a protest. Macrob, raced by tho trainer. Jack Holt, gave that mentor his first Melbourne win this season with a narrow win in the Veteran Stakes. L’Aiglon was always prominent and Saint Warden finished fast® to beat Gladynev, who had every chance. NOVEMBER HURDLE HANDICAP, £7OO. Two miles and a-half. VALHALLA, 11.8 (L. Hynes) 1 North Capo, 10.11 (R. Watts) 2 The Bend, 9.0 (A. Peterson) 3 Eight started. Won by five lengths, with 10 lengths between second and third. Penfield was fourth. Modiste and Mamillius fell. Time, 4min 38;jsec. BYRON MOORE STAKES. £7OO. Five furlongs. ALL LOVE, 8.7 i (D. Munro) 1 Cradle Song, 8.0 (J. Thompson) 2 Her Highness, 8.0 (B. Preston) 3 Ten started. Won by two lengths, with two lengths and a-half between second and third. Reg was fourth. Time, 58iscc, which equals the Australian record. LINLITHGOW STAKES, £I,OOO. One mile. HIGH CASTE (N.Z.), 9.0 (E, Bartle) ... 1 Gold Salute (N.Z.), 8.11 (P. Shcan) ... 2 Amiable, 8.11 (N. Creighton) 3 Five started. Won by two lengths, with two lengths and a-half between second and third. Industry was fourth, and Reading last. Time, Imin 37sec. After the Linlithgow Stakes Gold Salute’s owner, Mr Alan Cooper, decided to change his trainer. Gold Salute was formerly prepared by J. Jamieson, but is now under the care of G. Price. When interviewed, Mr Cooper said he merely carried out intentions formed before the Linlithgow Slakes. CARNIVAL HANDICAP, £7OO. One mile and a-quarter. VELOCITY, 7.11 (J. Purtell) 1 Fur Trader, 8.5 (D. Munro) 2 Nightbeam, 8.9 (J. Courts) 3 Seven started. ' Won by a length, with three lengths and a-half between second and third. Counsel was fourth. Time, 2mm 4-Jsec. OAKS STAKES, £2,000. One mile and a-half. SESSION, 8.5 (D. Munro) I Tranquil Star, 8.5 (F. Tocknell) 8 Throttle, 8.5 (A. Breaseley) 3 Scratched: Meadow Lark, Love o’ Mine. Eight started. Won by a neck, with three lengths between second and third. Trueness was fourth. Time, 2min 30q-s6c—a race record. VETERAN STAKES, £6OO. One mile and a-half. MACROS, 7.12 (B. Preston) 1 L’Aiglon, 8.8 (A. Breasley) 2 Saint Warden, 7.5 (J. Purtell) 3 Eleven started. Won by half a head, with length and three-quarters between second and third. Gladynev was fourth.
