WITHDRAWN FROM FORWARD POSITION REST AND REFITTING PERIOD (From the Official War Correspondent with tho Forces in Britain.) ENGLAND, November 6. After two mouths in the field as part of Britain's forward defence force, the New Zealanders have been withdrawn inland for rest and refitting. A few days are being allowed for settling in and making tho premises comfortable, after which first attention will bo given to clothing and equipment. On completion of leave every man’s battle dress will be professionally cleaned without charge to him. Tho granting of seven days’ leave to 10 per cent, of the strength weekly was interrupted by tho move to the coast. Beginning in September, within the next few weeks before winter begins in earnest, all the men who have not had this leave will get it. The winter training programme is necessarily more restricted that followed during tho summer. Nevertheless, there will be plenty to keep tho men’s minds occupied and. their bodies fit—for a start a return to tho parade ground to brush up dial! and generally smarten appearances, which wore of secondary importance in tho invasion belt; thereafter weapon training. route marches, and organised games as the mainstays of tho working day. In tho evening every unit will have the use of a well-heated, lighted room for reading, writing, and indoor recreation. Regular entertainment will be organised. Men wishing something a little more serious are offered facilities for_ free attendance in technical, commercial, language, and art classes at civilian technical colleges and evening institutes.
