PORT CHALMERS BEACH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The recent disposal of the piles from the Port Chalmers beach will. undoubtedly spoil the beach unless steps are taken. They prevented the sand from being washed away and they also acted aa a breakwater. The beach is now open to the strong current which passes close by. The relief workers -do not appear to be doing useful work, and I suggest that they aid the- members of the swimming club in building a circular breakwater from the shore and round the diving board. There are still stones on the breakwaters of the old beach, and if mors are needed I dare say they can be easily obtained. Last season the ’ beach was crowded every day, and I feel that the work is very important. The absence of dressing sheds calls upon the Port Chalmers citizens to make contributions to the cause, I hope this letter will stir the people into action.—l am, etc.. Beach Reformer. November 4.
