OTAGO CROQUET ASSOCIATION’S GALA DAY

The gala day arranged by the O.C.A. in aid of the funds of the Navy Queen, was held at Logan Park on 'Jhursday, and proved very successful and enjoyable. Several stalls were stocked and atttended by various clubs, and were well supported by players and friends throughout the afternoon. Competitions arranged by the association Match Committee proved very interesting, and kept players busy trying their , skill and judgment. During the afternoon the president of the association, Mrs J. M'Donald, addressed the gathering and explained the purpose of the function, and also introduced Miss Jessie M'Lonnan, the Navy Queen, who spoke a few words of thanks and appreciation to those present. A spray of freesias and lily of tho valley was presented to Miss AFLennan, who was afterwards entertained at afternoon tea. The clubs in charge of tho stalls w'ere as follows: Produce, Leith, Opoho. Dalmorc, and Logan Park; cakes and sweets, Caversham, Monteeillo. Balmacewen, and Punga; variety, Tainui, St. Clair, and Watea; tea rooms, Social Committee, Mrs Gibson (convener) ; competitions. Match Committee, Airs Buchler (convener). The winners of tho lawn competitions wore: Mesdames Beck. Sewell. Paid, Forrester, Newall, White. Leith; Strang, Best, M'Donald, Portman. Nelson. Metcalf, AFFaull. Speight, Paul, and Miss Brown. Winners of stall competitions were : Box ’of chocolates, Miss Nees; cosy (doll), Airs Forrester; bag of coal. Airs M Hill; bag of flour, Hazel Larsen; cosy and teapot. Airs Stanley Smith; handbag. Airs Whyte; canary. Airs Sage; Christmas cake, Airs H. AFDonald; tin biscuits, Airs Robertson.
