ADVANTAGE TO BRITAIN

THE INVASION OF GREECE BETTER ABLE TO STRIKE AT ITALY LONDON, November 1. The Ankara correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ says the Turks accept the Italian invasion of Greece as advantageous to Britain on the ground that the Greek bases will bring Britain nearer to Italy, while not bringing Italy nearer to Africa. They will be much disappointed if Britain does not take advantage of the conflict between Italy and Greece by putting an air force within bombing range of Italian ports and Rumanian oilfields. It is now believed that Germany will be ready to move -ifrom Rumania before the winter, which renders military operations impracticable. GERMAN TROOP MOVEMENTS. There are reports of German troop movements in Rumania, and of the arrival ol German air units at the Black Sea port of Constanza. Berlin circles are reported to be saying that General Metaxas made a mistake in regarding the Italian ultimatum as a declaration of war, since it might have formed the basis of a reasonable settlement on the Danish model. A German spokesman said that Germany had no quarrel with Greece, and that Italy would be left “ to get on with the job herself.”
