SEVENTH DAY COMPARATIVELY QUIET MORNING This morning, the seventh of th*> annual festival staged by the Dunedin Competitions Society, was- a comparatively quiet one, only five classes in all being heard; Two of these, were the first sections in scholarship classes, the boys’ elocution, and the open adults’* elocution, but no recalls will be announced until the own selection section of the same classes has been heard. In the remaining two classes only recalls were made, and these, with th* exception of the tap dancers, will reappear to-night. Among the important classes to b» completed to-night will be the men’s vocal scholarship, the adults’ elocution scholarship, and the chief piano sola contest. Awards will also be made in the children’s action choruses following the presentation of the seventh of the series by Miss Florence Pacey’a juveniles. Children’s action pongs, humorous recitations, children’s duets. Burns songs, piano duet, and men’s recitation sections will complete the competitive side of the programme, m addition to which there will be a cahsthenic display by a team from Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen. The results this morning were:— ELOCUTION. N Judge: Mr J. W. Bailey. RECITATION, men. ‘ A Consecration ’ (John Masefield). —The following were recalled:—Messrs Cecil Oaten and Gordon Churchman. DANCING. Judge: Miss Betty Caruochan. TAP DANCING, suitable for musical comedy, without apparatus, 14 and over. —The recalls were Mr. Billy ning (Invercargill) and Mr Eron Reed,VOCAL. Judge: Mr V. C. Peters. CHILD’S ACTION SONG, under 12. Own selection. —The recalls were Joan MTnnes (Green Island) and Lois Yule. TO-MORROW’S EVENTS. Events during the day to-morrow, when only His Majesty’s and the Victoria Hall will be in use, will include character recitals, humorous character sketches, the lieder open solo, boys’* recitations, ladies’ recitations, children’s duets, and the , own selection section of the Gilbert and Sullivan contest. ;’■ *
