A.S.R.S. RESOLUTION

5 PER CENT. WAGE INCREASE INADEQUATE NO SUSPENSION OF 40-HOUR WEEK [Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 26. A meeting of the Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed the following resolutions : “ This meeting, representing 1,100 members, emphatically protests against the 5 per cent. • increase in wages awarded by the Arbitration Court. We consider that at least 10 per cent, is needed to meet the increase in the cost of living, and request that not only the railwayman, but all workers, be granted this increase, also those in receipt of sustenance and pension rates.” “ This meeting strongly resents the continual demand of the local bodies and chambers of commerce for the abolition of the 40-hour week and the substitution of a 48-hour week. Wo hereby reaffirm our adherence to the 40-hour week, and shall strongly oppose its abolition or suspension in any degree.”
