TO-DAY’S MATCH
OTAGO V. SOUTHLAND WEATHER CONDITIONS FAVOURABLE [From Our Reporter.] INVERCARGILL, August 17. Some light rain during yesterday did not materially affect the playing area at Rugby Park, which had previously been dry and firm, and this morning the prospects for the Otago-Southland game were for a fine day and good conditions generally. There was little excitement in evidence before the match, but the interest taken in this timehonoured fixture was not lacking, and an attendance of at least 10,000 was anticipated. Owing to illness .1. Grant (Taieri) was a last-minute defection from the Otago team and is replaced by R. M'lntosh (Kaikorai), who will be playing his first representative game. W, Bisset (Taieri) accompanied the side as a reserve forward. Doubts are entertained as to S. E. Purdue playing in the Southland pack owing to influenza, and if he does not his place will be taken by G. Herron, who played in the match at Dunedin.
