At the modtlily meeting of the High School Governors a letter was received from Mr K. E. Morrison resigning his position as English master in the Otago illoys’ High School and manager of the boys’ boarding establishment.—The resignation was received, the board recording its thanks to Mr Morrison for (•Undent services as English master of the school and manager of the boarding establishment. The Council of the Christchurch Acclimatisation Society has directed the attention of the directors of tiie Union Steam Ship Company to the'illegal exportation of trout that is being carried on through stewards on their intercolonial vessels, and asks them to put a stop to the practice. Acting under British influence, the Sultan of Zanzibar has forbidden the sale or exchange of slaves, and has issued orders closing depots formerly used for the receipt of slaves. He has also agreed that slaves may purchase their freedom, and declares that slavery will end with the death of the present owners. The Arabs accept the decision with composure.
