[From Oor Correspondent] PERSONAL. An old resident of Milton district 'passed away at his residence on Sunday in- the person of. Mr Ernest Anderton. who was born in Hilminton, Warwick* ■ shire, England, 83 years ago. Ho came to New Zealand in the ship James Nicol Fleming about 66 years ago with his parents, the lato . Mr- and Mrs John Anderton., After a few. weeks’ residence 'in Dunedin the family removed, to Mil;burus' and deceased has resided in the district ever .since. He engaged in farming for’ a time, and then went to Milton, wh er ® was driver for Mr George Reid for many years. He was predeceased by Anderton about 18 months ago,, and sine© their has been confined to his bed, BIBLE SOCIETY. At the annual meeting of the Milton branch of the Bible Society of Otago 1 and Southland, the Rev. A. J. T. Fraser presided. The. address was given by Sister' Margaret Ramsay, of Dunedin, who spoke on the work of the, society. The Rev. S. T. Nichoilswas elected president : the Rev. Mr Fraser, the Rev. ©V -Parker,; and Captain E. Thomas were appointed vice-presidents; and Miss A. Nichoils was elected secretary 'and treasurer.’ ST, JOHN AMBULANCE. Thirty-four members of the Milton division of St. John Ambulance, who sat- for the hygiene examination (Dr J. N. Edgar being examiner and Mr A. F. Wethey supervisor), all passed. M'Kvnna, T. Park, G. Taylor, N, Vidal. Messrs H. Fagg, J. Dignan, A. R. Wethey. EARLY LAMBS, Milton district has again put up a record in the matter of early lambs. Twins were horn at. Mr T. Lowery’s farm, Crichton, on Saturday. They are from a Dorset ew© imported from Australia last year, and are strong and healthy. ' ACCIDENT. While working,a carding machine at the Bruce woollen mills on Friday Mr J. F. Duncan had the misfortune to get his right hand caught in the machinery, with the result that it wits rather badly lacerated and two sinews were severed. He was admitted to hospital, and is now making satisfactory progress. MINIATURE RIFLES. The Balclutha Club opened the season last night, when there was an attendance of 35. C.
