RACES FROM TiMARU AND INVERCARGILL “T. * , Tho Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew its first north _ race of the young bird season from Timaru on Saturday. The station master liberated 110 birds, representing 17 lofts, at 11 a.m., an calm, overcast weather, and the birds appreciated the conditions by putting up a fast flight. The winning bird flew the distance of 109 miles in 2h 15min. Results in yards per minute are as follows : J. Taylor’s Belmont Junior, 1,424.9 1 W. Robertson’s ’Melba Lad, 1.424.6 2 C. M'Farlane’s Crewe Joker, 1,420.7 3 J. Scoullar’s Fred’s Gift, 1,420.2 ... 4 A. Goodman’s Stoney, 1,410.4 ... 5 The club also flew a race from Invercargill, where Mr Haffadine liberated 110 birds, from 16 lofts, at 9 a.m, in fine weather. There was a strong southerly wind, and the birds put up a good flight, the winning bird flying tho 113 miles in 2h 19min. Results in yards per minute are as follows: — J. Scoullar’s Ted’s Lass, 1,423.5 ... 1 W. Hargreaves’s Rivette, 1,421.4 ... 2 S, M'Donald’s Andy Mac, 1,414.2 3 J. Ramsay’s Red Chief, 1,413.8 ... 4 M. Anderson’s Southern Chief 1406.3 6 The club will fly from Orari and Invercargill on March 30.
