DIAMOND WEDDING

MX AND MRS ANDREW DUCKWORTH, ANDERSON'S BAY Celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding to-morrow at Anderson’s Bay, Mr and Mrs Andrew Duckworth, aged 85 and 82 respectively, are hale and hearty, and can look back over • long span of early history of Otago and Dunedin. To-day they were the recipients of many congratulatory

messages on the occasion of the celebration of their diamond wedding.

It was on March 17, 188 U, that Andrew Duckworth, born at Anderson’s Bay, and Jamesina Sutherland, born in Scotland, were married by the late IRev. Dr Stuart at Knox Church, Dunedin. As a young man Mr Duckworth Jived at the bay, but later moved to Stirling, South Otago, where he resided for about 56 years. There was a family of two sons and three daughters, the elder son, Robert Francis Duckworth, being killed in the Great War of 1914-18, after having also served in the South African War. He left a widow, and two children. The surviving members of the family are Andrew Duckworth (Bay of Plenty), Mrs Low (Auckland), Mrs Carr (Auckland), and Mrs Dyer (Anderson’s Bay). Mrs Dorothea Summers, a sister of Mr Duckworth, lives at Auckland. Mr Duckworth’s father was a very early settler of Anderson’s Bay. He came-to New Zealand in the ship Mary, which ’ arrived at Port Chalmers on April 11, 1849, the population of Port Chalmers and Dunedin together then being 755. A brother, Mr Henry Duckworth, wrote an interesting and now valuable history of Anderson’s Bay and Tomahawk. No doubt, when members of the family and old friends forgather to-morrow at 88 Tomahawk road to take part in the celebration of the diamond wedding, and to offer their congratulations to Mr and Mrs Andrew Duckworth, many memories of the early days of the bay will be recalled-
