Congress moved two steps towards tho creation of a United States Legation in Australia, the most important being tho Lower House Appropriations Committee’s authorisation of funds to enable Mr Gauss to proceed to Australia from Shanghai promptly. Meanwhile the Senate began consideration of the regular State Department appropriation for the year beginning July, in which is included authorisation for a Minister in Australia for a full year. This House has already approved an Australian legation.
