AIR OFFICERS GO ABROAD
LIAISON DUTIES IN AUSTRALIA AND CANADA [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 22. The Minister of Defence, U on. P. Jones, stated to-day that the Cabinet had approved of the appointment of Group-captain T. M. Wilkes to act as liaison officer in Australia for the New Zealand Army and Air Force. Groupcaptain Wilkes will leave for Australia at an early date. During his absence from New Zealand Flight-lieutenant J. Mi Buckeridge, at present senior assistant to the Controller of Civil Aviation, will be acting Controller of Civil Aviation. The Minister also stated that Cabinet had approved of the appointment of Group-captain L. M. Isitt as the representative of the New Zealand Government on the supervisory board set up to administer the Empire air training scheme in Canada. Cabinet has also approved of Mr B. R. Rae proceeding to Canada to assist Groupcaptain Isitt. Both officers will leave New Zealand at an early date. DALMORE-PINE HILL HOUSEHOLDERS * MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A general meeting of the uewlyformeu Dalmore ana Liber con Ratepayers and Houseiioldcrs' Association was held last evening at Dalmore, when there was a good attendance trom ail tho Fine Hill districts. Mr C. Mitchell was in tho chair. The Secretary reported that he had written to the city valuer protesting on behalf of the association against the increased rateable values ot Dunedin property, and had also forwarded a copy to the City Council. Replies had been received, in one of which the town clerk intimated that the council would take into consideration tho increased values when striking the rates for the ensuing year in March. Tho correspondence was received. The executive submitted a constitution, which after some amendment was adopted. In order to embrace the widest possible interests it was decided to change tho name of the association to the Dalmore-Pine Hill Districts Ratepayers and Householders’ Association. It was decided, on the, motion of Mr Reid, seconded by Mr Ritchie, that a clause be added to the constitution excluding from debate all political matters. Tho adoption of the constitution left two vacancies on the executive, which was increased from seven to . nine. After a discussion, in which members of the association and the secretary of an' older Householders’ Association spoke, it was moved hy Mr Lake, seconded by Mr Reid, that the old association bo asked to nominate two members of executive from Pine Hill and Liber ton. Tho motion was lost on, the adoption of an amendment moved by Mr Brough, seconded by Mr Qvam, that two representatives of Liberton and Pine Hill be elected immediately. Mrs Ford (Pine Hill) and Mrs Barlow (Liberton) were elected. A long discussion ensued on the bus service to the district, and various recommendations from the executive were approved. It was decided to approach the city transport department with a renuest for a better service. The meeting decided to have a supply of membership cards printed, and the lowest of several quotations was accepted.
