ST. GLAIR CARNIVAL
After a lapse of two years the St. Clair Improvement Association is holding the popular St. Clair carnival at the Esplanade as one of the official fixtures of Centennial week. The committee has put forth its best efforts to make this carnival its best to date, and the public will be afforded ample entertainment each evening, and it will close to-morrow. Powerful floodlights are installed to light the breakers, and the public is able to view at night the water work and canoe races by members of the St. Clair Surf Life Saving Club. The Esplanade and amusement park are illuminated with hundreds of coloured lights, making the carnival appear like a big fairyland. With the amusement devices, new games for all, and refreshments stalls there is ample entertainment to cater for all tastes. The public is reminded that the funds from these carnivals are spent on improving the amenities of the St.' Clair Beach, and the association is assured that the measure of support and attendance of the public at the carnival will be ample acknowledgment of what has already been done by way of improvements at Dunedin’s popular beach. The flood lighting of the breakers is new to St. Clair, and with the surf boys in their canoe events and water work it is a never-failing source of interest to the spectators. The illumination of the carnival and the Esplanade has occasioned favourable comment and provides the necessary atmosphere for an evening carnival. Amusementdevices are in popular demand, so that there is plenty of interest and entertainment, the proceeds from which come back to the public in improved amenities for the beach.
