[Contributed.] PERSONAL. Miss Carrie Ashton, late Dunedin activities secretary, and • now of the Adelaide V.W.C.A., is visiting New Zealand and is staying with her parents in Timaru. Miss Hilda Nicolson attended the Christian Youth Council Retreat held recently at “ Tirohanga,” North Taieri. Miss Rosevear, matron of the hostel, leaves for her annual holiday this week. Miss Forsyth will relieve for her at the hostel, CLUBS. The ex-hostel girls have resumed their monthly meetings. Any ex-hostel girls are welcome at 11.30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month for afternoon tea and friendly reunion at the hostel. At last Monday’s meeting of the Tiki Club Mrs H. D. Skinner gave a talk on Sweden, illustrated by picture post cards and photographs. She said that all domestic workers in Sweden have to spend some time in a training school. At the first gathering of the Girl Citizens for this year, Thelma M'Lean was elected chief citizen of the Dunedin community. Miss Nancy Hanlin gave an interesting account of the girls’ conference held recently at Frederick Wallace House, Lower Hutt. WORLD FELLOWSHIP. A letter of Christmas and New Year greetings has been received from Miss Ruth House, world's Y.W.C.A. president. This was written just before her departure from London to chair the meeting of the Executive Committee of the World’s Association in Geneva in December last. She said: “Do pray for us as we take counsel together. Our main concern is, of course, to discuss the policy of the World’s Association during this time of war and-crisis. May God reveal His purpose to us and give us a hearing ear and an understanding heart.” A Christmas card has been received from Mrs Taffs, secretary of the New Delhi Association, and from Mrs Pauline Price, general secretary of the Singapore Association. A Christmas card has also been received from the world’s office in Geneva with the following message in German, French, and English:—“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it he afraid. An anxious world which has lost its sense of direction awaits the guiding star. Once more the Christmas message proclaims that the Word was made flesh and that He dwells among us, a living and life-giving Power to the end of the ages.” HEALTH AND RECREATION. Keep fit classes will recommence tonight at 7 o’clock. ' Congratulations are due to Miss M. Strathdee and Miss V. Garland on gaining representative cricket' honours and on their line showing against Wellington and Christchurch. Miss Q Phelan, captain of the Y.W.C.A. first grade basketball team, has also been chosen to represent Otago in the cricket match with Southland next week-end. CENTENNIAL EVENTS. Y.W.C.A. teams will take part in the march past of sports girls on Children’s Day at Wingatui on Tuesday, February 20. A sports meeting for girls has been arranged for Wednesday evening, February 21, and Y.W.C.A. teams are asked to get into touch with Mrs M.‘Aughtrie re practices. The first Otago baseball team is to play Christchurch next month. Miss V. Fleury. captain of Y.W.C.A. 1., and Miss T. Peterson, captain of Sargood’s, are showing great promise, and both handle their teams well.
