DRUIDISM

Bay Lodge met in the St. Kikla Town Hall on Monday last. Arch. Druid Bro. W. A. Huston presided over a large attendance of members. The routine business was quickly dealt with to allow dancing and cards to be indulged in. The visitors included G. President Bro. A. J. Hinton, P.P.A. Bro. M. J. Thompson (Board of Management), District Presidents Bros. Lo Bran and R. Morrison, P.G.P. Bro. C. W. Jacobsen, P.D.P. Bro. _A. C. Durable, and the Arch. Druids and members of Lodges in Nos. 1 and 2 Districts. G. President Bro, A. J. Hinton, in replying to the reception given to him by the large number present, congratulated Bay Lodge on the progress it was making. The G. President also touched on the matter of what the order will do for soldier brethren going overseas. Grand Lodge meets early in March, when the matter will receive full consideration, BroHinton appealed to the members to stand behind their lodges through the period that lies ahead. Bro. Geo. Newman supplied the dance music, while M.C. Bro Smaill carried out his duties well.

J.P.A. Bro. A. S. Stewart presided over the regular meeting of Enterprise Lodge, held last Wednesday, when there was a good attendance of meml>crs and visitors The Bards’ report disclosed that there is still a fair amount of sickness amongst members, and sick pay amounting to £l7 was passed. During the evening one candidate, having produced a certificate of fitness, was duly initiated as a full benefit member, the ceremony being carried out in an impressive manner by the newly-installed officers. Amongst the correspondence was an invitation from Bav Lodge to attend a social evening. The annual report of the N.Z.F.S. Mutual Fidelity Guarantee Association was placed before the lodge, and it is gratifying to note that the society is in a sound financial position, much credit being due to officers concerned. During the evening the lodge Benevolent Committee met and disposed of some important business, the committee receiving the thanks of the lodge. Owing to the large amount of business before the meeting it was found impossible to carry out the syllabus item, table tennis tourney, but those who are well in the running for the trophy are reminded that next lodge night is set aside for the tournament. The last meeting of Linden Lodge was presided over by A.D. Bro. Lewis, and he was greeted by a fair attendance of officers and brethren, and extended a welcome to officers of Otago and members of Pride of Mornington Lodge, who had come ’to help the social side of the lodge. Correspondence included an invitation from Bay Lodge to attend its next meeting. Sick pay and accounts were passed for payment according to a decision reached at the previous meeting. The A.D. closed the lodge at 9 o’clock and so enabled the brethren to join together and have a pleasant game of progressive euchre, which resulted in A.D, Bro. M‘Cullen (Otago Lodge) being declared the winner. Royal Oak Lodge. No. 3, met in Oddfellows’ Hall. Forbury Comer, last Monday. Arch Druid Bro. C. R. Jones presided over a good attendance of members, D.P. Bro. W. Leßrun. of Pride of Mornington Lodge, and P.A. Bro. A. Harris, of Enterprise Lodge, werb'welcome visitors. Correspondence included acknowledgements of sick pay. A reply was received to a letter sent to Bro. Jones wishing him success in his military career. Bro. Jones wishing the members of Royal Oak Lodge best greetings in the new year. P A Bro. M'Keich reported on a visit to Mistletoe Lodge. Secretary Bro. Hinton, in reply to question regarding members on active service, said Grand Lodge had the matter in hand. The lodge colsed at 9.15 p.m. to enable all oresent to have a friendly game of cards.
