(Received February 9, at 10 a.m.) The coal mining unions have come into the open and have disclosed that they are making preparations for a Commonwealth-wide strike or lock-out, and intend to sound other unions concerning financial assistance. DEMAND FDR NEW AGREEMENT DIRECT ACTION THE ALTERNATIVE SYDNEY, February 9. (Received February 9, at 1 p.m.) The combined mining 'unions’ committee sent a demand to the colliery proprietors for a conference before the end of the month to negotiate a new agreement. In an official statement the committee declared; “Failing a satisfactory agreement, the unions will he compelled to take direct and immediate action to enforce their demands.”
