Cables in the harbour have been broken, quays flooded, and. cranes damaged. Ice nearer the German frontier, where 200 ships are held up, crushed a collier, which motor pumps are (keeping afloat. A message from Oslo says increasing ice - formations on the south coast threaten shipping. The bitter weather and the shortage of fuel and electricity have rendered idle 400 ships, closed the schools,' and restricted church services. There is two months’ fuel available The loss of 33 colliers during the war and the severe weather are hampering shipments.
