NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP AT EASTER [Pek United Press Association.] • WELLINGTON, February 8. Applications from the Napier and Manawatu Clubs to conduct the 1942 championships were considered by the New Zealand Golf Council at its monthly meeting. It was decided to reply that the applications' would be considered when the time came to decide the question of holding a tournament that year. The North Island dose amateur championship will be held at Palmerston North at Easter, but no application has been received to conduct the South Island event. The following cablegram, to which suitable acknowledgment has been sent, was read from the Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews:—“ The Royal and Ancient Club sends, cordial greetings to golfers of New Zealand. We are deeply sensible of the magnificent efforts being made by your country to help in our great struggle.”
