PARIS, Feb. 4.—lnfantry fire across the Rhine between Strasbourg and Lautorback, which hitherto has been the quietest sector, marked the end of six months of war on the western front. German patrols were very active along the slopes west of the yosges last night, but were repulsed at all points. To-night’s French communique says; “ A sharp encounter with an enemy reconnoitring party turned to our advantage.” LODER CUP AWARD. A Wellington Association message states that the Loder Cup has boon awarded to Mr W. A. Thomson, of Halfway Bush, Dunedin. (The Loder Cup is given for the encouragement of the growth of native plants and the dissemination of facts about them.) INJURY TO “ QUAD.” Vora Johnston, one of Dunedin’s quadruplets, was admitted to hospital this afternoon with slight concussion, caused by a fall at her home, 139 Helensbury road. STOCK EXCHANGE.
