POLLARD SUPPLIES

PERMISSION TO IMPORT [Kudu Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, August 25. Authority has been granted the Wheat Committee to import supplies of pollard for the assistance of the poultry industry, and to build up stocks for emergency purposes. This announcement was made by Mr Sullivan to-day. The Minister said the decision had been reached after consultation with the Wheat Committee on the findings of the Price Investigation Tribunal on the prices of Australian bran and pollard. The tribunal had found that in certain instances in the past merchants’ margins were on the high side, but since the inquiry had been held there had been a modification of prices. Both the tribunal and the Wheat Committee will closely watch the position to see that margins are maintained at a reasonable level. The fact that the Wheat Committee would be making purchases from time to time would tend to keep margins as low as possible, in addition to helping the supply position.
