THE PALACE OF DIOCLETIAN
An increasingly strong body of opinion in Yugoslavia is in favour of what is known as the “ purification ” of the famous Palace of Diocletian at Split. ' The palace largely owes its unique character to the circumstance that since early medieval times tiny dwelling houses and shops have gradually encroached upon the ancient structure. It is now proposed that all the postRoman additions should be eliminated, leaving the original building completely isolated, on the lines adopted over recent years in Rome.
