“ North End.”—You ask if seed of tho Lincoln spinach or Mercury can be obtained here, and you ask if it is grown in New Zealand. lam afraid I do not know it under that name, but from the description it closely resembles in growth a vegetable named Calabresse, which is greatlv appreciated in the United States but is very little grown in England. The stem of the plants can be peeled and be eaten as asparagus and the leaves are cooked as spinach. I cannot find the seed in any New Zealand catalogue, “W.H.K.,” Milton.—You asked if sheep manure is good for general gardening purposes.—Yes, but it should be dug in sparingly at once for vegetable growing. You also aslk if it would be a success for tomato growing.—Yes, I have used the samp manure for tomato growing and it turned out » great success. I would advise that it be dug in at once in the bouse mentioned There is no need to remove the soil from the house, but you should fumigate it just prior to planting with Pinepesiol powder at the rate of 2oz per yard.
