EMERGENCY TIN STOCKS

AMERICAN BARTER SCHEME ALTERNATIVE PROPOSALS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 18. (Received May 19, at 8 a.m.) London tin traders have prepared alternative proposals to the United States barter scheme. They suggest the transfer to America of an agreed quantity of tin which will remain in the ownership of the ■ British Government, to which the American Government will advance money for the purchase of these stocks, and in consideration of which America would • be granted the option of taking over the stocks in the event of war. It emphasised that war would be an essential condition of relinquishment of British ownership. _ _ / Tin circles consider it vital that the metal should not be allowed to pass into American control under other circumstances. They also suggest that in the event of war danger passing stocks be only liquidated gradually after five years, thereby preventing danger of collapse of tho market.
