CHALLENGE ISSUED TD SOUTHLAND EDMOND SHIELD AND INTERCLUB REGATTA An invitation to Southland to row the Edmond Challenge hmeld intevprovincial eight-oar race at Dunodm on March 11, wnen the interclub regatta sponsored by the North-end Club will Uo lield, was decided to bo issued at a meeting of the Otago Rowing Association last night. The president (Mr T. Mackie) occupied the chair. This year tne race will be rowed over a two-mile course up to the North-end shod, the same as that proposed by that club for its regatta. Urging the benefits, of the course, Air E. Eggers pointed out that it could easily be reached by spectators, while a natural gallery existed, affording a much better view than that obtainable from the wharf. After further discussion it was decided to hold the two fixtures on'the same day. and that the invitation he extended to the Southland Association. LIFE AIEAIBER’S BADGE. 'The vice-president, Air S. G. Styche, was presented with his badge of life membership. Paying a tribute to the services Air Styche had rendered as chairman, secretary, and delegate, the Chairman said that he “ had been for many years almost the association himself.” Air Styche had been chiefly instrumental in the association, being able to successfully conduct what few, if any, associations in New Zealand could do—an annual regatta. QUEENSTOWN REGATTA. The Queenstown Regatta Club advised that .its fixture would be held on the usual date—Easter Saturday. The executive was prepared to include the Utago-Southland cight-oar race for the Edmond Shield in its Easter programme. Officials appointed were—starter, Air E. V. Fairbairn; umpire, Air W. Robinson : N.Z.A.R.A. representative, Air J. Turnbull. Due to the holding of the interprovmcial eights at Easter it would not be possible to hold the Edmond Shield fixture on that latS ' INTER CLUB EIGHTS. In the interciub eights, to he rowed at Dunedin on February 11, the upper harbour clubs will row the first heat, which will begin at 2.50 p.m. Judges appointed for the intoreluh eights were Alessrs S. G. Styche, W. Robinson, and J. Solomon. LOWER HARBOUR EIGHT. Arrangements were left with the Port Chalmers Club for the transportation of the lower harbour eight from the Varsity clubhouse to Port Chalmers. Air F. Eggers reported that there were two cracks in the hull. and. directly opposite, three ribs required attention.—lt was decided that necessary repairs bo made.
